Amanda Gorman…
Greetings, Friends of Westtown Monthly Meeting,
The annual theme of Black History Month is established by the ASALH (Association for the Study of African American Life and History). The theme for 2024 is: African Americans and the Arts.
This week’s featured artist is Amanda Gorman.
Amanda Gorman was named the nation’s first ever National Youth Poet Laureate. A National Youth Poet Laureate is the winner of a national competition that recognizes young poets for their talent and the meaning of their work. As a poet laureate, Gorman has recited her poems at the Library of Congress and at special events. On January 20, 2021, Amanda Gorman became the youngest inaugural poet in American history, reciting “Hill We Climb” during the inauguration of President Joseph Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris.
